Brief

Client Vision

The client approached us with a clear vision: to design an elevated Sonoran home that felt like a permanent escape. They wanted a space where the couple could unwind year-round, far from the demands of east coastlife, but without compromising on sophistication or function.

The goal was to create a sanctuary — one that celebrated desert tones, embraced slow living, and encouraged meaningful moments, whether hosting guests or enjoying coffee on a serene Sunday morning.

Challenge

Considerations

The architecture of the home was bold and modern, defined by large glass panels and geometric forms that opened up to desert views. While striking, this presented several design challenges:

  • How to soften the sharp lines and introduce a sense of warmth and intimacy
  • How to create cozy, private zones within open-plan layouts
  • How to bring the outside in without overwhelming the space with too much rusticity

Another key consideration was durability — the materials and furnishings needed to withstand monsoons, high temperatures and bright sun.

Solution

Creative Direction

We began by anchoring the entire palette in surrounding desert colors & shapes. From the floors to the fixtures, every element was selected to echo the tones and textures found just beyond the windows — sandy beiges, earthy browns, misty greys, and soft whites. Vinyl flooring runs throughout the home, offering warmth and durability, natural linen upholstery, and honed stone finishes introduce quiet textures.

To enhance the sense of flow, we maintained a minimalist approach to furnishings — each piece was carefully chosen for its function and form, with enough breathing room to allow the architecture and views to take center stage. Large, low-profile sofas invite long conversations, while custom-built storage keeps visual clutter to a minimum.

Zoning was achieved through subtle architectural cues and layered lighting. A cozy reading nook offers solitude with desert views, while the open kitchen merges seamlessly with a dining space designed for extended family dinners.

Living the Outcome

The Troon Retreat is more than a beautiful home — it’s an experience. It feels expansive yet sheltered, elevated yet grounded. Every material was selected not just for its look, but for the feeling it evokes: softness, stillness, ease. Whether used as a retreat, a workspace, or a gathering place, the home adapts effortlessly to the family's needs, while always maintaining a sense of quiet luxury.

The final design speaks not only to the client's original vision, but to something deeper — a lifestyle rooted in simplicity, balance, and connection to place.
