Brief

Client Vision

The client came to us with a confident vision: she wanted what she wanted — and this time, it was all about her. A successful, middle-aged professional reinventing her space after divorce, she had waited years to create a home that reflected her style, on her terms. She was drawn to the warmth, simplicity, and expressive color of mid-century modern design, but wanted it softened — more personal, more feminine.

She envisioned soft pinks, brass details, rounded forms, and cheerful tones layered over a clean, timeless architectural foundation. From the tailored kitchen with golden accents to the vaulted living room and dreamy, blush-toned bedroom, each space was curated with a fresh take on mid-century modern living. The look was never retro — it was a refined, optimistic interpretation of a style she’d loved for years.

What she wanted was a home that balanced nostalgia and reinvention — and we made sure every room captured that beautifully.

Challenge

Considerations

Because the home was over 60 years old, our first priority was understanding the structure before we could style the space. The client had a clear vision, but realizing it meant addressing the home’s age with care and strategy.

We began by walking through the original layout, identifying what could be preserved and what needed to be updated. With our renovation team, we sketched out a new flow that honored the mid-century bones while opening the home to more light, function, and  warmth.

Behind the softness of the final design — the layered color, brass accents, and playful furniture — is a foundation of thoughtful renovation. From updating electrical and plumbing to reworking ceilings and enhancing natural light, every design decision was supported by structural intention.

The result is a home that feels effortless, but began with a deep respect for its history — and a clear plan to help it evolve.

Solution

Creative Direction

Our creative direction was rooted in the idea of elevated mid-century modern, softened through a feminine, expressive lens. From the beginning, we knew this wasn’t about recreating a retro look — it was about reinterpreting the mid-century spirit in a way that felt deeply personal to the client.

Clean lines and classic architecture set the foundation, but our palette introduced warmth, optimism, and personality through blush tones, buttery yellow accents, soft woods, and brushed brass.

We leaned into rounded silhouettes, vintage-inspired lighting, and low-profile furniture that invited comfort without sacrificing style. Every selection — from the sculptural chandelier to the pastel cabinetry — was meant to feel intentional yet relaxed. The creative direction focused on balance: honoring the home’s historic character while introducing a fresh softness that made each space feel like a reflection of her current chapter — joyful, grounded, and entirely hers.

Living with the Solution

“I walk through my home now and I still can’t believe it’s mine,” Mitzi said. “Every room feels like me — like I finally get to live in the vision I’ve carried for years. It’s beautiful, it’s peaceful, and it makes me smile every single day.”
