Brief

Client Vision

This client came to us wanting to completely shake off the safe "builder beige" of their original home. The wanted navy and gold in the common areas, bright, clean and cheery, but a more dramatic and romantic bedroom that reminded Joy, our client, of her favorite jewel box.

Challenge

Considerations

The Vibe: "I want it to feel like a boutique hotel in the English countryside, but with bright walls and traditional accents."

The Palette: While they admired the crispness of the Navy/White combo, they ultimately craved heat for the boudoir. The request was to for a deep, dramatic Red (Oxblood or Merlot) to create a cozy, "jewel-box" effect.

The "Anti-Fuss" Factor: They specifically requested to strip back the ornamentation. They wanted the luxury to come from color and material, not frills.

The Focal Point: A singular, strong statement. They opted for a sense of nobility and motion - without feeling stuffy.

Texture Priority: To keep the traditional furniture from feeling cold, they insisted on custom made rugs. They wanted that tactile, artisanal feel to ground the classic bed frame.

Creative Direction

Our design strategy, which we are calling "The Jewel Box Split," creates a deliberate emotional journey by establishing two distinct atmospheres for the social and private wings of the home. rather than aiming for a uniform look throughout, we are embracing a bold separation that dictates how each space feels.

For the common areas, such as the living room and entrance, we are establishing a "Crisp Tailored" zone defined by high-energy elegance. These spaces rely on a deep Navy and White palette to create architectural crispness, where the dark walls provide depth while extensive white millwork keeps the atmosphere bright and daytime-appropriate. We treat the lighting and hardware like the home’s "jewelry," utilizing gold and brass accents to add sparkle and sophistication against the matte navy backdrop.

As we transition into the bedrooms, the narrative shifts from entertaining to "cocooning." We drop the high-contrast crispness in favor of a "Warm Romoantic" vibe, utilizing saturated Deep Red and Hunter Green tones to create a den-like warmth. Here, the "glam" elements are replaced by "quiet luxury"—dark walnut woods, hand-knotted textiles, and tactile surfaces that invite relaxation. We are anchoring these spaces with an Equestrian and Heritage motif, using art and leather tones to impart a sense of nobility and history.

Despite these differing palettes, the home remains cohesive because the saturation levels match perfectly. The navy, red, and green are all equally intense, ensuring that the visual weight is balanced from room to room. By carrying traditional furniture shapes throughout every space, we prevent the heritage colors from feeling dated, resulting in a home that feels both curated and dynamically storied.

Living the Outcome

Living in this Paradise Valley home now feels like a daily transition between high-energy sophistication and deep, restorative comfort. In the common areas, the client feels a constant sense of pride and "arrival"; the bold Navy and Gold palette creates a backdrop that is immediately impressive and ready for Architectural Digest. The crisp white millwork against the dark blue walls makes the space feel custom and deliberate, while the tiered crystal chandelier in the entrance adds just enough sparkle to make coming home feel like a special occasion. It is a space that energizes them, perfectly suited for hosting guests or simply enjoying a polished, tailored environment that feels far removed from the "builder beige" they started with.

However, the mood shifts completely when they retreat to the private quarters, which the client describes as a physical exhale. The transition into the bedrooms, with their deep Oxblood tones, signals an immediate psychological shift from "public" to "private." Joy loves to enjoy coffee in their outdoor living space where she watches the sunrise.
